Once we are immersed in
this awful English summer, I have decided to travel to Spain for some weeks. I
will relax and enjoy the Balearic Islands and some of the beautiful wines this
country has to offer. This week, I will introduce you to an excellent wine from
a not very well known Spanish region: Somontano.
The wine in question is
bright as a sunshine morning on the Ses Illetes beach with a beautiful lemon yellow
hue and a silver rim. It's as expressive as the people from the Mediterranean with
a fruity-forward character and highlights of litchis. We are clearly dealing with
a Gewurztraminer. Spicy undertones are also detectable, such as white pepper, as
well as hints of lemongrass that provide a beautiful touch to the blend.
On the palate, we find a
medium-bodied wine with memorable freshness. It´s an absolutely hedonistic wine
perfect for a chatty afternoon in Cala Llenya. I can confirm the fruity and
herbal notes as much well as I can confirm I will be finishing one or two
bottles of this extraordinary Gewurztraminer during the sunset in Benirras.
These features give the
wine a distinct character and make the Gewurztraminer from Viñas del Vero the perfect companion for a Spanish summer trip.
Taste it, let it linger in your mouth and enjoy it together with the Spanish
sun. Please, do not take it to a rainy afternoon summer picnic in Hyde Park. This wine deserves much more, this
wine deserves summer.
